Going Places

Going Places

What does my 2 1/2-year-old pack when running away from home? A cellphone, checkbook, magna doodle, and a pinwheel. I’m actually slightly alarmed at how well-prepared the contents of his suitcase left him . . . Ellen is also starting to go places in a much more direct way than her previous methods of rolling and scooting.

Midnight Snack

Midnight Snack

Last night, Noel and I were folding laundry when we heard a rustling noise coming from Cooper’s room. We opened the door while grumbling about how he really should be asleep by now and then burst into laughter. The sound we’d heard was the wrapper of a granola bar. A granola bar he had stashed away earlier and then retrieved to sit at his little Ikea table for a civilized midnight snack. When we first opened the door a look…

The Nyquil Incident

The Nyquil Incident

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Friday around noon Audrey and I were talking in the kitchen during my lunch break. Cooper had silently wandered off as he often does presumably to drive cars or shoes on our unmade bed. Except he wasn’t. I heard him coughing in the bathroom and went to check out what was going on to find a pool of bright red liquid all over the bathroom floor and in the tub as well as…

Big Boy Room On a Budget

Big Boy Room On a Budget

I’m not generally one of those people that creates a master design scheme for decorating a room. (I’m just not that fancy.) So, when we relocated the crib to Ellen’s room I slowly began my process of collecting and making things (as cheaply as possible) to turn Cooper’s room into a big boy room.  There are still things that will get upgraded as he gets older (like a bed frame), but I think I’ve created a base that will transition…

The Zoo

The Zoo

Since our last attempt to visit the zoo didn’t work out, we used Noel’s last paternity leave day to go when the zoo was less busy. We went on a rainy weekday, so once the school groups ran for their buses we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Ellen could have cared less about the zoo, but was plenty content in her fleece suit. Cooper liked most of the animals (most of which were “dogs”), but was terrified of…

2 Years & 2 Months

2 Years & 2 Months

I took both kids to the doctor yesterday for well-check appointments. I debated and debated about whether to make their appointments for the same time or not and finally decided I’d have to drag them both with me no matter what, so we might as well get it all done at once. It was a little chaotic (I seriously can’t believe that the pediatrician’s office of all places doesn’t have childproof cabinets.),  but we managed without anyone getting hurt. (Although…

You’ve Had a Birthday Shout Hooray!

You’ve Had a Birthday Shout Hooray!

Our Cooper isn’t quite as mini as he used to be it seems. He turned two this past week. We had wonderful plans of going to the zoo, but we literally could not find a parking spot within a 5 mile radius. Fortunately, Cooper had no idea and was not at all disappointed when we went to the park instead. We took him to California Pizza Kitchen and uncharacteristically ordered Cooper his own BBQ Chicken Pizza. (PS This recipe for…

Easter/Blessing/Spring Break

Easter/Blessing/Spring Break

We had quite the busy Easter weekend. My family made the long drive from Utah, most of them sacrificing cooler Spring Break plans so they could cuddle the new baby,   play with a crazy little boy, generally infringe on each others’ space, install a whole house fan and lay insulation, watch a two-year-old collect plastic eggs, and be there for our sweet little girl’s baby blessing. It was nice to have our house full on such a special weekend….

Summery Weekend

Summery Weekend

The weather here has been so warm lately with temperatures in the 80s the past two days. Today we’re returning to a more traditional weather pattern with rain/snow in the forecast, so we made the most of the weekend. In true summer fashion, we slept in. Of course tuned in to four inspiring sessions of General Conference. (Were there a lot of talks on parenting or was that just what I needed to hear?) In between sessions we did yard…

Alive and Well

Alive and Well

Don’t worry, we’re not dead. We’ve all just lacked the brain power necessary to draft a blog post (sad, I know). Hopefully we’ll pull ourselves together soon and get back to our regular publications of high intellect. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s our current substitution for 3,000 good ones. *Why yes these photos are much better than the ones we typically feature on this here blog. That’s because I didn’t take them;…
