Miss Ellen Turns One

Miss Ellen Turns One

Apparently, people can go pretty crazy about their child’s first birthday. When I was “doing research” (AKA googling stuff on the internet) in preparation for Ellen’s birthday I found this poll on Baby Center and was shocked at how much money some people spend on this special occasion. I like to think birthdays can still be fabulous without emptying your bank account, so that’s exactly what we did. We didn’t really decide on any sort of theme, but looking back…

Mini Me?

Mini Me?

When we found out Ellen was a girl, I confessed my desire to have a “mini me.” I don’t think Ellen is turning into an exact replica, but I don’t think the differences are large enough for her to be mistaken as someone else’s child. Often people tell Noel and I, “It’s amazing how much she looks like both of you” so at least I’m getting some credit for this kid. Recessive genes pulled through to give her blue eyes and…

A Much Better February

A Much Better February

Sometimes I like to read through old blog posts or journal entries to reminisce or simply remember things. With Ellen’s first birthday fast approaching, I’ve been looking back at what life was like around this time last year and I would like to officially apologize to any of you who were reading the blog last February. Whew, I was a ray of sunshine and you were getting the upbeat version. If you managed to get through that and are still…

The Little People

The Little People

After a visit to the doctor last week and a few days of antibiotics for the boy, the energy in our house is back up to 110%. It does my heart good to see these little people smile again, even if it means they’re back to their usual shenanigans.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

I’m learning not to talk about children and sleep. More often than not, this topic of conversation makes me want to punch other people because their children sleep and mine don’t. On the rare occasion that my children are actually sleeping, talking about it seems to be bad karma because the day I open my mouth about it we have a HORRIBLE night. That said, I am not going to discuss my children’s current sleep habits, but I will say…

Punkins!

Punkins!

Cooper is starting to talk a lot more and one of his favorite words this fall has been “punkin!” The word is always said with at least one exclamation point. About a week ago, we picked out a couple of pumpkins at a local patch. Just last night, we finally got around to carving them. We thought about putting it off at least one more night when dinner was just one long whine-fest, but when we mentioned the word “pumpkin”…

Going Places

Going Places

What does my 2 1/2-year-old pack when running away from home? A cellphone, checkbook, magna doodle, and a pinwheel. I’m actually slightly alarmed at how well-prepared the contents of his suitcase left him . . . Ellen is also starting to go places in a much more direct way than her previous methods of rolling and scooting.

Super Baby

Super Baby

The women I run with have started calling Ellen super baby. At first they called me super mom because I started running with them when Ellen was only three months old, but I corrected them and told them that the only reason it seems like I’m a super mom is because Ellen is a super baby. Miss Ellen is now 6 months old and continues to be pretty amazing. While she has a generally cheerful disposition, she is also very…

2 Years & 2 Months

2 Years & 2 Months

I took both kids to the doctor yesterday for well-check appointments. I debated and debated about whether to make their appointments for the same time or not and finally decided I’d have to drag them both with me no matter what, so we might as well get it all done at once. It was a little chaotic (I seriously can’t believe that the pediatrician’s office of all places doesn’t have childproof cabinets.),  but we managed without anyone getting hurt. (Although…

Miss Ellen

Miss Ellen

Ellen is now over a month old. She is such a calm baby. Even when Cooper is climbing all over her and trying to shove a pacifier in her mouth, she’ll just give him a dirty look and save her cries for when she’s hungry. Noel and I each take a child at night (he gets Cooper and I get Ellen) and most nights Noel is up more than me (although I’m typically up longer). Ellen is a really good…
