Come Workout With Me!

Come Workout With Me!

I’m doing some Zoom workouts this next month while my work is closed. I’m even doing one for the whole family that I’m really excited about! Check out my work’s calendar for days, times, and links to the Zoom meetings. I’d love to see familiar faces there!

At Home Workout

My work has been shut down by a state executive order closing all gyms until at least April 16th. I actually think it was a good call – the Golden Community Center, like most gyms, is a bustling place with lots of older clientele, kids running around to various classes, and lots of equipment sharing. Still, it’s hard when your routine, especially such a healthy one, gets disrupted. A few of our trainers and fitness instructors were asked to put…

Moving Outside the Box

Moving Outside the Box

I’m what some would call a morning person. Ideally, I like to witness the sun’s rising while my feet traverse a trail, relishing the quiet solitude. This personality trait also renders me useless by 8pm. Having used my last energy reserves to wrangle the kids to bed, I can barely muster enough energy to watch television. All of this makes my being here at this exercise dance class at 7pm on a school night a clear deviation from my norm….

Natural Beauty

Natural Beauty

Doesn’t everyone want a nice rosy glow?  Well, how about going for a run or doing a few push-ups before going out instead?  That’ll do the trick every time.  Do you want bright glowing eyes?  Get some sleep.  Red lips?  Give them a little nibble and you’ll be just fine.  Want to radiate from the inside out? Smile!                                        –“Eliminating Lady Temptations” Maybe it’s just because I never really got the hang of the whole make-up…

Sundays and Sun

Sundays and Sun

Still no baby, but it won’t be too much longer. Every Sunday we drive by the Unitarian church and read their sermon topic off their sign. They always have such interesting topics and some Sundays it is so tempting to attend their one hour sermon instead of our three hour block. (One Sunday I was sitting in the last hour of church and one of the other primary instructors pulled out this cartoon.) The past couple of Sundays I’ve dutifully…

Resolved

Resolved

It’s that time of year when everyone is creating ambitious training plans and hitting the gym daily. Not me though, at least not this year. Becoming a mom has taught me a lot about respecting my body. Prior to Cooper my body was a lean machine that frequently had its limits pushed in various races, nights of little sleep in order to complete “important” tasks, and back to back scheduling that kept me constantly on the go. Years of training…

Round is a Shape

Round is a Shape

As someone who (sort of) formerly worked in the exercise industry, I’m always curious about new exercise programs that come out. When I was doing my student teaching many moons ago, everyone was talking about P90X and how amazing it was. I was skeptical partially because I was way more fit than any of my fellow PE colleagues who professed love for the program and partially because I don’t trust things that are sold on infomercials. I kind of forgot…

Morning Workout

Morning Workout

Put laptop on top of television, turn on music, and take a couple laps around the basement. Take phone from boy and cancel call. Put phone on top of television. Step-ups with overhead press – pause in middle to chase the boy down, pull him out of the “technology room” before he gets to the wireless router, and pull door shut TIGHT. Take a few more laps around the basement and haul a whining boy away from banging on the…

Skinny Genes

Skinny Genes

I’ve had the opportunity to teach a couple of exercise classes in my day. The typical audience has been girls age 12-18. Whenever I start a discussion on the benefits of exercise the first suggested benefit is ALWAYS “it makes you skinny.” It bothers me every time. Because I’m a teacher, I twist their answer to make it more truthful and say something like “It is true that exercise can be an effective tool for weight management.” “Skinny” never makes…
