Saturday Morning Cravings

Saturday Morning Cravings

Being pregnant sometimes makes me lazy, especially on Saturday mornings. Every Saturday morning Noel will ask me what I want for breakfast and I will invariably respond with either “Einstein Bagels with honey almond schmear” or “donuts, mmmmm.” Noel is a good cook and very good at not giving into my cravings to eat out constantly. He’s kept me satisfied for weeks with delectable pancakes, ebelskivers (thanks for the pan for Christmas Danielle!), and omelets. Still, that craving for a…

Work Hard, Play Hard

Work Hard, Play Hard

Last week we were lucky to have a visit from my parents and my brothers. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t much of a vacation because we had a long list of projects for them to help us with. Still, we managed to squeeze in some fun celebrating my Dad’s birthday (Happy 50th!) and showing them some of the local sites they missed out on the last time they visited Colorado. In less than a week we managed to drive on…

Oreos

Oreos

Image from smittenkitchen.com Growing up, both of my grandmas had freezers full of things that little kids love. One of my favorites that my McConkie grandma often had was homemade Oreo cookies. They were so much better than actual Oreos, and not just because they were homemade, but because they had cream cheese icing. When I got older I learned the best part, they weren’t even that difficult to make – all you needed was a cake mix, 3/4 C…

The Weekend

The Weekend

Sorry I’ve been such a bad blogger lately. My apologies and I promise to be better. This weekend two very exciting things were being celebrated. The first of course was Buffalo Bill Days and the second was National Cheesecake day. Buffalo Bill is a big deal around these parts. Golden was one of Buffalo Bill’s favorite places and he is buried here at the top of Lookout Mountain. We managed to make it to the parade. Now, you aren’t going…

Easter

Easter

Do you remember how I told you I don’t remember ever believing in Santa? Funny thing is, I do remember believing in the Easter bunny. I remember the year my parents told me he took my binky away and how traumatized I was. I didn’t like him. Needless to say, I don’t think the Easter Bunny will be visiting our house. Don’t worry though, there will still be baskets and eggs.  I found a great list of suggestions to make…

Real Food

Real Food

Cooper has never eaten “baby food” and I like to think this has made his food preferences more sophisticated. It is sometimes funny to see people’s reactions when we’re at restaurants. Cooper is convinced he’s an adult, so there’s no ordering off the kid’s menu. He will open his mouth wide for whatever we’re having, whether that’s pizza or a smoked lamb quinoa soup with pickled onions (which is delicious by the way), and eat it with a smile. We…

A Few Sweet Things

A Few Sweet Things

Cupcake Report – The St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes were  indeed tasty. Would I wait in line again? Probably not. Will I use their menu as a starting point for some delicious experiments? Most likely. Cooper – We think we’re hitting round two of teething. Drooling – check. Biting things – check. The kid has been such a fussy, restless little guy (both while asleep and awake) lately. He’s only happy if he’s trying to walk or playing with cabinet doors….

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I waited in line for 25 minutes for these cupcakes. (Which apparently is a pretty short wait for this cupcakery.)  I’m not really sure I’m sold on this whole cupcake trend (I mean, what about all the other delicious baked goods in this world?), but the place has rave reviews and I figured I should give it a chance. I’m saving them till after dinner, but I’m hoping they were worth the wait. In other news, I’ve loved walking down…

Lesson Learned

Lesson Learned

Last night we tried out a lovely Ethiopian Restaurant that was only a short walk away. We had a delicious utensil-less meal – which was a great cover-up for the etiquette-free-way we typically feed Cooper.  We beat the dinner rush and left satisfied. Two hours later, we put Cooper to bed and decided to go for a quick run. As we whittled away the miles on our 5K treadmill programs, the food in our stomachs sloshed and the heat began…

Lately

Lately

Most of our recent posts have been musings that offer up little information on what we’re doing and little to no pictures. I know it’s killing you. Well, your patience will be rewarded right now. Cooper is not yet crawling, but he’s working on it. It’s kind of fun, but ends in face plants and loud cries more often than we would like. Two weekends ago we rented some snowshoes from the local university and went on a short snowshoeing…
