Easter 2014

Easter 2014

Religiously, I feel like Easter is a very important holiday and I really want my children to understand that. This year, we tried out “Seven Days Till Easter” that was featured in the April edition of The Friend. Basically, each day in the week leading up to Easter we would learn something about Jesus by reading a scripture, singing a song, and matching what picture went with that day’s theme. Even though it took five minutes or less, it was still…

March Madness

March Madness

We haven’t really followed college basketball since we were in college, but nonetheless March is always a month of madness for us. Birthdays, anniversaries, crazy weather, pi(e) day, St. Patrick’s Day, etc. Throw in a cold circulating through the family, a class that steals most of our Saturdays, and a handful of Boy Scout related activities and things get pretty crazy. Since we last posted, we celebrated pi(e) day with an amazing coconut cream pie (find the sneaky whole wheat crust recipe here)….

Picture Perfect Christmas

Picture Perfect Christmas

Pictures (at least the ones we share with people) often do make things look perfect don’t they? Our Christmas definitely wasn’t perfect since it involved more projectile vomit than we would have liked, but truthfully it was good. The day before Christmas I took Cooper to the doctor because he’d had a few barfing incidences and I wanted to make sure I got him checked out before the doctor’s office closed for a full day. The prognosis was that he…

Kids and Christmas Ornaments

Kids and Christmas Ornaments

You know how most parents worry about their kids breaking all of their Christmas ornaments? Well, that isn’t really a problem at our house. The kids have been really gentle with the ornaments and haven’t broken a single one. But do you know what is a problem? The kids drinking out of the ornaments. Yes, you read that right. And it’s not like they’re dehydrated. No matter how many times I give them both full cups of water, I still…

‘Tis the Season

‘Tis the Season

‘Tis the season for baking delicious goodies (see a few a few of our favorites over at Dirty Dish Club). Trimming the tree while blasting Christmas tunes. Giving gifts. And of course, for remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Hope you guys are enjoying this Christmas season!

Colder than Alaska

Colder than Alaska

Last week Noel’s parents and sister, Vanessa Joy, paid us a visit for a few days. Glenna and Mike had hoped to get away from the harsh Alaskan winter, but the whole time they were here the temperature never managed to get above 12 degrees. We tried not to let the weather put a damper on our plans and we all bundled up to go on an adventure. We took the light rail into downtown Denver and had lunch.  …

Celebration Mash-Up

Celebration Mash-Up

Here are some of the things we’ve been celebrating lately. New phones! Now I can actually answer phone calls again when people call me. The old screen broke when I dropped the phone while visiting someone from church. I guess no good deed goes unpunished. Warm weather. We’ve been soaking up as much of it as we can while it lasts. The hearty breakfast that awaited me post run. My birthday. I had a pretty good birthday that included a…

A Blustery Halloween

A Blustery Halloween

We kicked off Halloween with Cooper’s first ever school Halloween Party. I was slightly appalled at how much sugar the kids got at the party and realized that I may become that mom who is suggesting we have carrot sticks for the kids to eat. I was, however, the only mom at the party that dressed up so I could still potentially be in the running for coolest mom, right? Before heading home we picked up a few items at…

Low-Key Fourth of July

Low-Key Fourth of July

Holidays are always a little tough for us because the truth is, we aren’t really fond of being around lots of other people. Thus, we tend to be a bit hermitish when everyone else is out partying.  This fourth we stayed close to home, played with the kids, ate delicious summer favorites (grilled hamburgers and homemade ice cream), and did a few fireworks in the street before putting the kids to bed. Noel and I thought we might catch some…

Eggs and Ham

Eggs and Ham

I kind of view these years when my kids are little as years that I can practice and refine holiday traditions without too many consequences. For the most part, our kids are still pretty oblivious to typical holiday celebrations and I have the freedom to experiment with traditions without being locked into them. I also was able to breathe a sigh of relief that I made it one more year without fielding any questions about fictitious characters that come bearing…
