New Additions

New Additions

The weather here is feeling so fall-like which makes daily life at our house so much more pleasant. Add to that the fact that my cold is ebbing and I’m safely into my 2nd trimester and suddenly I feel like doing things again. It’s a wonderful feeling and likely means more blog posts than you’ve been getting recently. We haven’t talked about our house in awhile, but over the past month we’ve carefully been collecting odds and ends to spruce…

Work Hard, Play Hard

Work Hard, Play Hard

Last week we were lucky to have a visit from my parents and my brothers. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t much of a vacation because we had a long list of projects for them to help us with. Still, we managed to squeeze in some fun celebrating my Dad’s birthday (Happy 50th!) and showing them some of the local sites they missed out on the last time they visited Colorado. In less than a week we managed to drive on…

The Rest of the Main Floor

The Rest of the Main Floor

Today I bring you the rest of the main floor. Let’s start with the front room. We have big plans for how to lighten this room up and add color, but that will come (as many other things) with time. The plants are orchids that I have my fingers crossed will bloom again and the curtains are my fabric.com clearance find creation. This is the entryway with my clearance hooks from Target. (Can you tell I just peruse clearance sections…

Kitchen and Dining

Kitchen and Dining

We worked hard over the weekend and almost everything has a place now. Hopefully in the next couple of days I’ll be able to wrap this tour up and blog about something else. (I always feel a little weird taking pictures of all my worldly possessions and posting them. It basically feels like I’m saying, “Hey, I’m pretty neat; look what I have.”) Today I bring you the kitchen and dining room. We have some big plans for these rooms…

The “Do” Room

The “Do” Room

When we were in DC we had cable and I was slightly addicted to HGTV. This year HGTV was having a sweepstakes for a  green house in Stapleton, CO (a do-able commute to Noel’s job). The house was both green and gorgeous and Noel and I religiously entered the sweepstakes twice daily up until the day we were officially under contract on our home. One of my favorite features of the house was the “Do” room. Someday I hope to…

The Master

The Master

We’ve got a long list of things we want to do with some of our rooms, so I think I’m going to take you on a tour room by room as things get done. Generally our bedroom is the last thing we seem to focus on, but this time it was the first. Before we even started looking at houses I found a tutorial for some Anthropologie inspired bedding. Truth be told, I’ve never even set foot inside an Anthropologie…

Outdoor Spaces

Outdoor Spaces

Before we take you into our humble abode, we thought we’d give you a tour of the grounds. Our neighborhood is mostly populated by retirees with meticulous yards, so in order to not be the “young, irresponsible couple” the yard was our first item of business. There’s still a few more stumps and evil weed bushes that need to be removed, but the yard is much improved. When you pull up this is what you will see: and as you…

Finding Normal

Finding Normal

Hello, again. It’s been awhile hasn’t it? It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. First there was all the moving, packing, and cleaning while Cooper protested from his pack-n-play. (It didn’t help that he cut three teeth that week.) Then there was a start at all the cleaning and unpacking which was interrupted by a week long trip to Alaska to visit Noel’s parents. It literally feels like we’ve been running for two weeks straight. An hour before we left…

Closing Time

Closing Time

I remember feeling so trustworthy when my parents gave me my first house key. No more ringing the doorbell or waiting on the porch if no one was home. Then there was the sense of maturity when I got my very own set of keys to the family cars on my 16th birthday. I still have the key to the little blue Toyota Tercel I drove, even though we hauled it to a junkyard years ago after I totaled it….

Walk Score

Walk Score

Interesting tidbit: if you enter your address at walkscore.com you can get a score out of 100 indicating how walkable your neighborhood is. Our current place scores a 26, which is generous since it counts a butcher shop as a grocery store and a Truss factory as the nearest shopping destination. Our DC apartment scored a 97 (described as a “Walker’s Paradise”). I think the incredible pedestrian access is the number one thing I will miss about DC. Truthfully, I…
