Worth It?

Worth It?

Noel and I love cooking. Anytime we eat something good at a restaurant we try to find a way to replicate it, and often come to enjoy our version even more – plus our way is generally cheaper. I am now ruined on Cafe Rio salads, store bought bread, packaged tortillas, and Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana. There are however some things that I believe are 100% worth paying for. For example, hazelnut gelato. After three days of attending to its needs, dirtying every dish in our house, and enduring the torture of having hazelnut shards stuck under our fingernails, we realized why vendors are able to charge so much for this delectable dessert. We will probably NEVER make gelato again.

Our newest cooking adventure, still has me contemplating its worth. We decided to make some imitation Girl Scout Samoas. The damage:

It's a little hard to tell, but EVERYTHING was covered in chocolate.

The results:

I still haven’t decided whether it’s better to support a good organization and avoid the hassle or be a cheapskate. The cookies taste good though.

  1. You need to have a Bed and Breakfast, preferably in Alaska, where the mountains meet the ocean, and good food is oh so appreciated!

  2. I am responding to Glenna’s comment with regards to your future. I do believe living where the mountains meet the ocean would be a beautiful place to have a Bed and Breakfast, but don’t do it. You would only have your free loading In-laws hanging out as much as possible, eatin’ all your wonderful food. This is one of those conditions where good food would make you sick alright, sick of us. When you think of the perfect conditions of living, remember one of the most important ingredients to this concoction is the freedom to enjoy it all by yourselves. If you make it look good enough, everybody’s is going to want a part of it. In the not to distant future, private time will require expert planning, and will be in short supply.

  3. Mmm, Fijis! I love Samoas, you have inspired me to give it a try as well. I was disappointed this year when I never even had the opportunity to buy them. I do have to say though, I enjoyed replicating recipes and doing more gourmet cooking a lot more before I had 2 kids…
