Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

“Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.”

― Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire

Yesterday, we took our little family out on a much needed hike.

We packed the kids around (freeloaders) and wore crazy shoes.

The boy kicked up dirt and climbed on rocks. (Supervised of course.)

And Ellen enjoyed being in the wrap for a couple of hours. (Probably brought back fond memories of  her former home.)

Hope you didn’t get too bored of all our green posts this week. We’ll be getting back to normal posts again, but don’t be surprised if we pull out the green soapbox now and again 🙂

  1. In honor of Earth Day, we tried to be good as well. We went on a hike, which was very needed too. Had tinfoil dinners and walked to church today. Thanks for the motivation.

  2. What do you think of the “crazy” shoes? I’ve never tried them, but have always been curious about them. What brand are they?

    1. Noel and I both have Vibrams. So far, I’ve used mine for running (helps get you back to a more natural form) and hiking (you have to be a little more careful of your step since the soles aren’t as thick as shoes, but they have great grip and help you feel more sure of your footing). I like my five fingers, but I still don’t wear them for every run. (Although I think they’re teaching me step lighter when I do wear my running shoes.) When you first start to use them they can really make your calves hurt since they’re working harder than usual. When I wear them I feel more carefree, like a little kid which is nice since that’s not something I feel much anymore 🙂
