Chalk Art Festival

Chalk Art Festival

Last weekend we went to the Denver Chalk Art Festival. I’ve meant to take us there for years, but this year we finally made it happen. We rode into Denver on the train, which the kids absolutely loved. On our way to the festival we got sidetracked by a splash pad. We let the kids run through and as we were standing there we noticed a big event happening at the other end.

We wandered that way to see what was going on and found it was a rally/march put on by the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action. I was vaguely familiar with the group, so we talked to some of the local chapter leaders to learn more and get some swag. I’m not going to get up on a soapbox, but gun violence has touched my life more than once and I like this group’s mission. The swag came in handy because the kids were soaking wet and the t-shirts we just got were put to immediate use.

It was the first day of the chalk art festival, so most of the art was still in progress. It was fascinating to see the artists’ process and skill. There were even a few high school art groups there. The kids got to add their mark in the children’s area and after we’d had our fill we headed back to the train. It was a fun, cultural experience for all.
