August 2021

August 2021

At the end of July/beginning of August, we went on a much anticipated trip to California. This trip had been in the works since early 2021 and had been a lot of fun to plan and dream about. It was slightly stressful to be flying again (especially since we’d never in all our years of travel seen the Denver airport so busy), but things went pretty smoothly.

Chalk Art Festival

Chalk Art Festival

Last weekend we went to the Denver Chalk Art Festival. I’ve meant to take us there for years, but this year we finally made it happen. We rode into Denver on the train, which the kids absolutely loved. On our way to the festival we got sidetracked by a splash pad. We let the kids run through and as we were standing there we noticed a big event happening at the other end. We wandered that way to see what…

Mom: Part 2

Mom: Part 2

I’ve mentioned multiple times that my mother is a talented photographer. Every time we see her we are generally lucky enough to get a free photo shoot or two or eight 🙂 Here are my two favorites from the past week.

Cooper really likes to play with the iPod. All the colors and moving pictures can keep him quietly busy for several minutes, which is especially convenient at church. We have an app that essentially turns the iPod into an expensive etch-a-sketch, allowing you to draw with your fingers on the screen and shake to erase. He was playing with it yesterday and hit the button that emails the current drawing. Since he didn’t enter anyone’s email addresses and can’t tell…

Making My Mom Proud

Making My Mom Proud

My mom is an excellent photographer and artist (among many other wonderful traits). I, on the other hand, have never felt really artsy. With my winnig photo in the school’s literary magazine I’m wondering if a little of her talent rubbed off (just a little).  Thanks mom.

Isn’t it Ironic . . . don’t you think?

Isn’t it Ironic . . . don’t you think?

There are so many time in life when those words from Alanis Morisette’s song come to my head. In some ways I think it might be the theme song to my life. Recently I entered my school’s annual creative writing contest for the fifth year in a row. I have never won anything in this contest and as an English major I feel that winning writing contests is proof that I actually know what I’m doing. This was the last…

Pretzel Art

This is what happens when we come home hungry and bored late at night after running on gerbil wheels treadmills for four miles. Mix in a bag of Rold Gold, and you get…

Spiral Jetty

Spiral Jetty

Any weekend is a good reason to take a few extra days and enjoy the summer. We got to spend a very nice, relaxing weekend up at Park City with Grandma and Grandpa McConkie. While up there we got to see a parade of the fireman’s convention (a whole parade of firetrucks, the coolest part of any parade), check out some of the local outrageously expensive real estate, and spend some time at the pool. After that we went down…
