Posers

Posers

Some of you know and others of you might have guessed, but we haven’t been in Colorado for the past month. We’ve been in DC while Noel worked on a month-long assignment for one of the parent organizations of his company. For a month we’ve been posing as a young, hip couple living in a happening apartment in Georgetown. We’ve adapted the local ways of scoffing at escalefters and avoiding the Smithsonian Metro station on weekends. We’ve waited in more…

Adrenaline

Adrenaline

Our exercise accomplishments this past month have been pretty abysmal. We’ve run maybe three times. There have just been a lot of obstacles and it hasn’t happened as much as we would like. At the same time, the past month has presented us with the perfect opportunity to cross a running related goal of our list of “101 things we want to do before we die.” This past weekend was our last chance to complete this goal and even though…

Lesson Learned

Lesson Learned

Last night we tried out a lovely Ethiopian Restaurant that was only a short walk away. We had a delicious utensil-less meal – which was a great cover-up for the etiquette-free-way we typically feed Cooper.  We beat the dinner rush and left satisfied. Two hours later, we put Cooper to bed and decided to go for a quick run. As we whittled away the miles on our 5K treadmill programs, the food in our stomachs sloshed and the heat began…

Running is one of the biggest tags on this blog, so I know I don’t need to tell you I love it. For me, running has always just been part of life – something as necessary and natural as breathing. There are so many people I’ve met because of running, so many stories both life changing and minute that I could tell. (Any ideas on how I can convince Runner’s World that they need me?) Even my meeting and dating…

Living Where the Sidewalk Ends

Living Where the Sidewalk Ends

I’ve spent a large portion of my life being a pedestrian, but have devoted surprisingly little thought to sidewalks. When we decided to rent this house we fell in love with the large yard and quiet neighborhood. It wasn’t until Cooper and I went on a couple of outings that we realized the area wasn’t especially pedestrian friendly. If you look at our neighborhood on Google maps, you realize that it is an island. There’s only one through street, and…

Runners. Yeah, We’re Different.

Runners. Yeah, We’re Different.

Adidas ran a very clever ad campaign in 99/2000 that I have always loved. (I should warn you that you most likely won’t find them funny unless you’re actually a runner; I think this adds to the cleverness.) It’s a shame they aren’t still running it, because while we were going through our normal training routine yesterday I realized I had a great idea for them.

Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Head – I like setting goals. Generally they are very sensible and help me accomplish tasks or grow personally, but sometimes they’re just frivolous. Like this one: Try wearing hats. Check. Don’t I feel accomplished. Shoulders – Cooper doesn’t like it when we do things without him. If we try to sit him in the car seat, Bumbo chair, high chair, or whatever while we do things around the house he yells at us (not cries, yells). I know he…

Chance of Rain

Chance of Rain

The first summer of our marriage was dry and hot. The mountains caught fire, the grass died, and there were so many people at the public pool you could hardly move.  I know that’s not uncommon for Utah, but for some reason that summer felt worse than others. It was the first summer we both worked full-time 8-5 jobs, and we took it so seriously that we hardly went on any vacations. We were training for our first marathon and…

Goodbye Permasweat

Goodbye Permasweat

I’ve been meaning to get some special sports detergent for awhile to give our stinky workout clothes some TLC, but just haven’t gotten around to buying some online or going to a specialty store. Well, I was looking at my dear sister’s wedding registry and discovered that Tide had come out with a Sport detergent. While at Target yesterday I perused the detergent aisle and discovered that they had coupons for this item. Who can say no to saving $1.50?…
