Once at the end of a job interview I was asked if there was anything else the interviewers should know about me to which I replied, “Just that I’m spunky.” Everyone had a good laugh and when they called and offered me the job the next day I attributed it to my winning personality.* These days, I still like to think that I’m fairly peppy for a responsible adult, but sometimes it feels like the zippiness is being drained out of me. And I have some strong suspicions of who’s stealing it.

*A few months later when I was asked to go through some files, I actually came across the resumes of the other applicants and discovered that the real reason why they hired me was because I was the only applicant that actually knew how to write a resume, but I’m sure my spunk didn’t hurt.
