I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the movie Big Fish. The movie is a fantasy drama, which generally isn’t my style, but it has long been a favorite movie of mine. It’s a quirky movie, but like a good poem, phrases of it come to me now and again at pertinent points in my life. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the dad and how he keeps telling his son “this isn’t how my story ends.” I’ve been wanting to get an update up since my last post, but either I haven’t had the time or I haven’t had the words. Someday, I know I’ll be able to write eloquently about this period of my life, about the ways I grew, about the ways my family was blessed, about the things I learned. But that day isn’t today because I don’t know how this story ends. I can however, tell you about the other stuff going on in our life. Here’s a gallery and some captions to catch you up. The only thing that didn’t make the pictures is the kids’ Primary Program. Cooper talked about his Uncle Mitchell who is on a mission and everyone could tell what he said. Ellen did a great job too and provided some borderline interpretive dance moves on the sign language song.
Cooper smashing his pumpkin after Halloween. The school donates it to a farm that turns it into chicken feed.
Ellen chilling in a wheelchair when we visited Grandma Glenna in the hospital.
Board games with grandma Glenna after she got discharged from the hospital.
Cooper instigated a kite flying excursion one warm, but windy November afternoon.
Ellen and I flying the kite.
Ellen jumping in our leaf pile.
Mike and Glenna tagged along on a trip to the park one sunny afternoon.
Ellen checking grandma Glenna’s vitals with the doctor kit she got from Aunt Danielle.
Great Aunt Marsha pushing the kids around the hospital.
Grandma Glenna’s new chair/command center.
Cooper and Ellen loved the box the chair came in.
Everyone came for Thanksgiving and we were able to take a family photo.
For my birthday, Noel and I snuck away for a date where we ate delicious pizza.
We went to the Inventing Room for dessert. Noel had a waffle with PB ice cream, maple cotton candy, and popping whipped cream.
I made a delicious salted caramel cheesecake for my birthday.
Every Saturday in December Golden has a Christmas parade. We caught one of them.
The tiny horses were a hit.
Ellen tried to ride the bike rack.
And we all did the Christmas Macarena in the street.
Cooper loved the way the special ed department decorated their door and had to make his own Charlie Brown.
The kids were so excited for our first substantial snow. They did not inherit this enthusiasm from me.
Cooper had a painting in the schools art gallery. We were all so proud.
Another painting he did in art class.
This gingerbread house at the hospital cracked Glenna and I up when I took her in for an appointment. In case you didn’t guess, we aren’t Trump fans.
Aunt Danielle had business in Denver and visited for a 2nd weekend. The kids loved having her around.
Aunt Danielle reading a story to the kids.
Ellen snuggled right up to Aunt Danielle and fell asleep.
Aunt Danielle asked Cooper to draw a picture of a minion on a unicorn. This is what he produced.
We made a super chocolatey cake for Noel’s birthday.
I think it was his favorite gift. (Don’t worry, we unplugged Glenna’s oxygen for the few seconds it took to light and blow out the candles.)
The adorable card Cooper made for Noel.
The huge snowstorm we had this weekend.
We spent a good long time shoveling ourselves out and rewarded ourselves with waffle brunch.
The kids “sledding” off the porch.
Cooper’s turn
Ellen’s turn.
Ellen’s primary teacher gave her a gift with this photo. It’s my new favorite of Ellen.

Wow, Cooper is a great artist! I love those cute drawings. And Ellen’s haircut is darling! It’s so great to see little tidbits of your life.
