Happy New Year!
I recently extended an invitation for someone join the Merket family. Unfortunately, she declined. Something about my line of tying my shoe while we were out on a hike Monday and then saying, “While I’m down here…” was “ridiculous.” It sure made the rest of the trip down to my family’s home a little…um…awkward. Just kidding. She said yes. Audrey and I are getting married! March 10th is the big day. We’re both really excited about all the money the…
Here we have a service that nobody ever wanted. The Man has convinced us that we need this to protect our rights when indeed more rights are usurped than protected. The Man flourishes in this field of work because there is no avenue for redress. I understand that there is need for order and civility in where and when people can park their cars, especially in areas like college campuses. However, there is the same need for civility in the…
Verizon Wireless is a textbook example of The Man in action. Here we have a company that provides a seemingly good service to its customers. They help people communicate over long distances bringing family, friends, and loved ones within the reach of their far-reaching wireless network where people that are “in” can make phone calls for free to each other. They boast of their customer support, their “new phone every two years,” and warantees on phones. Nevertheless, it is a…
I am writing today to protest many of the serially inflicted injustices that occur in the world today as a regular part of doing business as usual. These happen every day to regular people as a result of our phone service, retailing, insurance, credit companies, and especially government. There seems to be a nebulous force that exists that causes many of these injustices. To some he is known as “the powers that be,” “Big Brother,” or described with the overly…
If you haven’t noticed, I’m not the best at updating this thing in a timely manner. Anyway, here’s a picture of my girlfriend Audrey and me on our way out the door to the Homecoming dance here at USU. We had a great time dancing the night away in spite of the fact that I have no dancing skills. As can be witnessed by the generally goofy grin/expression on my face I’m happy to be there with someone so way…
I apologize for never updating this thing. I’ve just been really busy lately with school and everything. More is coming soon.
Last Sunday the three amigos decided to go check out some of the sites around Blanding and we found Edge of the Cedars, a little Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) homestead to go check out. So, after emerging from the Kiva and seeing the world as if it were all new we had a much better outlook on life. Then this Thursday Danielle and I decided to go out to Natural Bridges National Monument. We did this roughly ten mile hike around…
Hey, I know I’ve been slacking on updating this thing. Anyway, I put some pictures on from the 4th of July weekend we all had down here at Lake Powell. I also tweaked the theme for the blog to make it less girly. I can’t believe it, the summer is almost over now. I only have two more weeks of working for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It sure has flown by. Maybe that’s partly because I started so late…
The good news: I finally got officially hired on at NPS. The background check cleared. Only a month late too. I guess I have a really shady background or made someone mad in the mail room. Either way I’m excited to have something to do and can’t complain about getting to spend all that time out on the lake “working”. In all my spare time I’ve set up a new program to manage the weblog. I’m not a big fan…
