Big Boy

Big Boy

I don’t profess to know anything about parenting. I basically go with the flow, do what feels right, and rely on Google  for everything else. As we prepare for Ellen’s arrival, we’re doing our best to prep Cooper. We’ve read books about new babies and my parents brought him a little redheaded baby doll (Wishful thinking? I hope not.). Still, I think the whole thing is going to be kind of a shock, I mean he holds the baby up…

Wearing Me Out

Wearing Me Out

As Cooper likes to say, he likes to “go, go!” He’s hard to keep up with no matter what, but with me putting so much energy into growing a baby I think he gets away with more stuff than he normally would. Here are some of his recent shenanigans. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, well here is Cooper snuggled under a blanket reading the Ensign. He also really likes to draw in the magazines which I…

The Sphere of Mommyhood

The Sphere of Mommyhood

I have a confession. It may seem hypocritical based on the large majority of the post topics on this blog and is obviously a sweeping generalization, but sometimes I get bored of the “mommy-sphere.” (While I’m being truthful, I’m also not such a fan of the word “mommy.”) I love it when I get useful advice from fellow moms or when we can have a genuine heartfelt conversation that non-moms may not be able understand . . . but sometimes…

A Good Reality

A Good Reality

I hate how gripping dreams can be emotionally, no matter how illogical the plot. Last night I dreamed that I was running from the law. I happened upon a large mansion where I hid for awhile and pretended to be a part of the staff for a large wedding that was taking place there. I made some friends while “laying low” and they helped me come up with the perfect escape plan that would make it so the authorities would…

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Monkey See, Monkey Do

The other day Noel and I were hanging pictures in our living room. To make sure everything was even and centered we measured and then made marks on the wall with a pencil. Unfortunately, Cooper was watching and now thinks you are supposed to draw on the wall with pencil . . . I’m trying to teach him to draw on paper, but he doesn’t seem to find it as satisfying. I suppose in the meantime I can be grateful…

Morning Workout

Morning Workout

Put laptop on top of television, turn on music, and take a couple laps around the basement. Take phone from boy and cancel call. Put phone on top of television. Step-ups with overhead press – pause in middle to chase the boy down, pull him out of the “technology room” before he gets to the wireless router, and pull door shut TIGHT. Take a few more laps around the basement and haul a whining boy away from banging on the…

All Done

All Done

Cooper knows approximately one real baby sign and that sign is “all done.” It’s handy because we know when he’s done eating or when he’s had enough of the swing at the park. Yesterday, we were in a church meeting that had just barely exceeded its one hour time slot and even Noel and I were starting to get a little squirmy. When Cooper looked up at us and wiggled his little hand to let us know he was “all…

Moments as Molecules

Moments as Molecules

I love the face of the guy when his son spills the bowl of spaghetti on the floor. I have so been there. Actually a lot of the points in this video really resonated with me today. After a long night with Cooper last night, I was feeling dejected about parenthood. (I really thought he was past the phase of waking up and crying for 2 hours straight.) You know what, though, whether it’s jumping in puddles after a summer thunderstorm,…

Looking Back

Looking Back

Exactly a year ago I posted this. Man that seems like a lifetime ago. As I look at the picture of me with my burgeoning belly,  I wish I could tell myself: You are so close to being done, really. Don’t worry so much about how huge you are. You. Are. Pregnant. You will be skinny again, but not immediately – and that is okay. Do you hear me?  It’s okay. And after he comes, take it easy for goodness…

Oh, Boy.

Oh, Boy.

If he’s not making a mess, or tugging on my pants, or doing something dangerous, or eating something he shouldn’t, then he might be sleeping. But probably not. And yes, he got in there himself . . .
