Little White Dress

Little White Dress

I’ve always wanted a little girl. I was not necessarily disappointed when we found out Cooper was a boy, but I was disappointed that shopping for and dressing a boy was fairly unexciting. When we first brought Ellen home from the hospital I think I made her a new headband every day for a week. It drove Noel crazy.  “You really like dressing her up don’t you?” He asked. Guilty as charged; I do enjoy it. Months before Ellen was…

Easter/Blessing/Spring Break

Easter/Blessing/Spring Break

We had quite the busy Easter weekend. My family made the long drive from Utah, most of them sacrificing cooler Spring Break plans so they could cuddle the new baby,   play with a crazy little boy, generally infringe on each others’ space, install a whole house fan and lay insulation, watch a two-year-old collect plastic eggs, and be there for our sweet little girl’s baby blessing. It was nice to have our house full on such a special weekend….

Summery Weekend

Summery Weekend

The weather here has been so warm lately with temperatures in the 80s the past two days. Today we’re returning to a more traditional weather pattern with rain/snow in the forecast, so we made the most of the weekend. In true summer fashion, we slept in. Of course tuned in to four inspiring sessions of General Conference. (Were there a lot of talks on parenting or was that just what I needed to hear?) In between sessions we did yard…

Alive and Well

Alive and Well

Don’t worry, we’re not dead. We’ve all just lacked the brain power necessary to draft a blog post (sad, I know). Hopefully we’ll pull ourselves together soon and get back to our regular publications of high intellect. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s our current substitution for 3,000 good ones. *Why yes these photos are much better than the ones we typically feature on this here blog. That’s because I didn’t take them;…

Report On My 40 Week Project: Ellen’s Birth

Report On My 40 Week Project: Ellen’s Birth

The day Ellen was born I had an OB appointment first thing in the morning. I was dilated to a 5 and my doctor told me that the baby was very low which meant she would likely come very fast when things got rolling. She expressed concern that a) I wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time to get antibiotics for my Strep B and b) I wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time to deliver. My doctor…

Reason #1

Reason #1

Dear Ellen, There are a million reasons why you should want to evacuate the womb and join our family as quickly as possible, but for now I’ll just stick with the best one: You are going to have an amazing older brother. Not only is he cutting edge and fun, but he’s going to love you so much. So, if you won’t do it for me, will you at least decide to come for him? Love, Mom

Baby Booties

Baby Booties

It snowed last night, which logically got me worrying about my unborn child’s tiny feet staying warm. The blog Delia Creates has been doing a nesting series the last week or so and one of the days featured a tutorial for some baby booties. They looked simple enough, so I whipped up a pair this morning. When Noel came home for lunch I was just finishing them up and asked what he thought. He said, “They’re inside out, right?” I…

The Nusery

The Nusery

Over the weekend we did the final touches on the little girl’s room. I wanted it to be simple, but feminine and am quite pleased with the final product. The best part was the minimal amount of cash we put into it. This is looking in the doorway. On the wall we have a framed copy of “My Day Old Child” from my mother-in-law and a framed free printable of “You Are My I love You.” The rug is a…

What’s In a Name

What’s In a Name

This picture of my great grandmother sits on my dresser. When my mother first gave it to me a few years ago, I put it there simply because the frame matched the one holding a family photo and it added a nice aesthetic balance to my bedroom. Lately though, the photo has taken on more meaning. Ellen Blattman Olsen lived until she was 101.  She was a widow for around 50 years and up until a week before her death…
