Looking Back

Looking Back

Exactly a year ago I posted this. Man that seems like a lifetime ago. As I look at the picture of me with my burgeoning belly,  I wish I could tell myself: You are so close to being done, really. Don’t worry so much about how huge you are. You. Are. Pregnant. You will be skinny again, but not immediately – and that is okay. Do you hear me?  It’s okay. And after he comes, take it easy for goodness…

Where the Wild Things Are: 5 Things

Where the Wild Things Are: 5 Things

1. This was one of my favorite books as a child. My dad read it with such enthusiasm. 2. The movie is okay. Definitely a lot of extrapolation. 3. When I was pregnant I really wanted to make a sign for Cooper’s bedroom that said, “Let the Wild Rumpus Begin!” but some people told me that would be asking for it. Well, I decided not to listen. 4. The book is on the list of banned books. (Because what child…

36 Weeks – Oh, baby.

36 Weeks – Oh, baby.

Today is the 36 week mark. People are becoming increasingly cautious around me, as if I could go into labor any second. The crazy thing is, they could be right. We’re on the home stretch and trying to do everything we can to prepare. One of my wonderful sis-in-laws, Danielle, also threw a marvelous shower over the weekend. It was nice to mingle with good friends and relatives. Cooper made a haul – he’s spoiled already!

Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned

Today I officially resigned my post as a substitute teacher. While I definitely wouldn’t say it was my favorite job, it has had some valuable personal benefits (earning points towards keeping my license current, developing really great “teacher looks,” etc). Overall, my favorite parts were the insightful things students taught me. Here are some of my favorites: Lady Ga Ga is a “musical genius.” Having more kids is often “the worst mistake of a mother’s life.” 7th graders are still…

In Training

In Training

For the past several months, Noel and I have both been training for upcoming big events and acting as each other’s coach.  Allow me to fill you in. Noel Event: Ogden Marathon Date: May 15th Goal: PR (Maybe beat my time . . . ) Notes: This is the first time Noel will run a marathon without me (Honestly, I really am sad about this). Originally, I considered signing up for the 5K, but am glad I didn’t since I…

Disabled?

Disabled?

Today, the nice, little old lady working at the Logan temple took one look at my belly and assigned me to the handicap locker stall. “You’re going to need the extra space,” she chuckled as she gently pushed me toward the stall. I wonder if this works with parking too.

What Are You Staring At?

What Are You Staring At?

I’m not sure if other pregnant women can relate to this, but I feel like the only thing people notice about me anymore is my belly.  On several occasions I’ve had complete strangers approach me at the grocery store and say things like “I just love your baby bump.” Once a lady simply shouted in passing, “Nice belly!” Other times people just stare. The stares are always accompanied by tender looks of sympathy, quiet smiles, quick glances edged with fear,…

32 Weeks

32 Weeks

So, I’m at 32 weeks and I figure that means I have anywhere between 40-70 days to go. We’ll see what happens. I’ve been really blessed (seriously) with a fairly uneventful pregnancy and am still doing quite well, but I’m beginning to see more and more of pregnancy’s effects. Although I’m still working out, it’s hard.  I had to give up running awhile ago and can’t walk more than 2 miles without feeling like my feet are on fire. Mostly…

Elastigirl

I wish the title was an indicator of some sort of superpowers that I possess, but alas I’m talking about the superpowers of my pants.

Babymoon

Babymoon

Babymoon: a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby. As has been our tradition for the past few years, we just got back from our spring break/anniversary/babymoon trip (the last descriptor is obviously new as of this year). We went to Monterey, California this time to thaw out from the Logan winter. We got…
