Moments as Molecules

Moments as Molecules

I love the face of the guy when his son spills the bowl of spaghetti on the floor. I have so been there. Actually a lot of the points in this video really resonated with me today. After a long night with Cooper last night, I was feeling dejected about parenthood. (I really thought he was past the phase of waking up and crying for 2 hours straight.) You know what, though, whether it’s jumping in puddles after a summer thunderstorm,…

Summer Loving

Summer Loving

Hope you got the most out of your longest day of the year. We took advantage of the extra daylight and went on a family bike ride to get ice cream. Happy first day of summer!

I just went for a quick walk outside. It is such a nice day out. Sunny and a bit breezy. Warm, but not too warm. It kind of makes me sad to be inside working. The strangest thing happened while I was out there too. A skinny kid (maybe 14) on a skateboard with too much gel in his hair was like, “Excuse me sir, do you have a cigarette I could have?” I was like, “Duh. No, I don’t…

Happy Earth Day! Since I know only one other person besides us went and watched the really awesome documentary I posted yesterday, I’ve made a list of some of the easiest and most effective things we all can do to use less energy in our very own homes besides things like unplugging cellphones, switching your light bulbs to CFLs, or such. Cooper really likes to play with the iPod. All the colors and moving pictures can keep him quietly busy for several minutes, which is especially convenient at church. We have an app that essentially turns the iPod into an expensive etch-a-sketch, allowing you to draw with your fingers on the screen and shake to erase. He was playing with it yesterday and hit the button that emails the current drawing. Since he didn’t enter anyone’s email addresses and can’t tell…

The flambouyant matador’s most unusual chili

The flambouyant matador’s most unusual chili

Happy Halloween! We went to our church’s Halloween dinner/chili cookoff/spooky dessert contest/game night/trunk-or-treat/costume parade last night. Naturally we had to put in our efforts in the food categories. Although Audrey’s double layer pumpkin cheesecake didn’t win any official prizes (Audrey wants it clearly noted that there were no awards based on taste for the desserts), it was the only dessert that was completely gone at the end of the night. I went out on a limb with the chili and…

Carol Jean Mitchell

Carol Jean Mitchell

Friday morning I awoke to NPR as I do most mornings. They played a segment from the Story Corp project that really tugged at my heart strings. The clip was of a man who had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease speaking with his wife about his memory and living in the moment with his family. My thoughts immediately turned to my grandmother, Carol Jean Mitchell, who struggled with that disease before passing away in 2002. She was taken mercifully…
